Lucky Plant and a joyful morn

We moved from a very dark, miserable apartment where the bathroom was dank and unloved. It was reminiscent of a ships  head. Light was at a premium and the shower was barely large enough for one, though strangely, the ants visited regularly when it got hot. Needless to say the whole environment was mighty depressing.

Today, I walked into the bathroom  and  stopped in awe. Yes, it is just a piece of lucky bamboo in my old , favorite broken cup but LOOK AT THAT LIGHT!!!

I am deeply grateful for the light, airy atmosphere we live in now. We learned so much from those two and a half years.

Home on the Range

In the high desert, about an hour outside of Los Angeles, is a community of bee hive like dwellings that rise out of the ground organically, masquerading as small hills and large rocks.
This is Cal-Earth.

I often dream of these houses. In theory the process is to build them is very simple. Spending a day wandering around their silhouettes, inspecting their placement and imagining the construct I would impose on this design, my heart aches to begin building a home of my own.

These homes and buildings are based on ancient designs and can be found in the furthest parts of the remote civilized world. These houses were and still often are built by the women of the community…I find that beautiful.

Early hours

I wake early now.
4AM
It is not thrilling, but it is getting easier. I got my own alarm clock.

Last night, I woke out of anxiety though....each time looking at my new alarm clock, wondering if it would go off on time. Sadly, I was late yesterday...48 minutes to be exact. Justin and I had a Brady Bunch moment.

He came home late, I was out already having had fallen asleep reading. When he came to bed he set the alarm. Later that night, I woke and realized I had not set the alarm...so I set it, effectively undoing his nice act.
I woke later around 5:30 in a bleeding panic.
Whatta dolt.

$5 will buy you a nice clock at Big Lots.
That and a whole bunch of peace of mind.

The New World BLT

For those of you who are making moves towards minimizing meat and wheat from your diets, here is a recipe for a tasty BLT that will leave you satisfied AND with a yummy grin on your mug! The cheese, playing the part of the bacon, is a special kind called halumi, which eschews the pernicious and vain attempts of the flame to melt it. Instead, it becomes golden brown on the outside and gooey delicious on the inside.
DROOL!!!

Trader Joe’s “Frying Cheese”
Heirloom Tomatoes sliced thin
Avocado
Spike seasoning
Butter Lettuce leaves

Slice the Frying Cheese/Halumi thinly with a mandoline. Fry well, until it deeply browns on both sides. This will take approximately 3 minutes on a med-low heat.

While the cheese does it’s thing, slice up the tomatoes, avocado and prepare some lettuce leaves to act as a wrap for all this green goodness.

Combine the tomatoes & avocado in the leafs of butter lettuce and sprinkle evenly with Spike. Now add the fried cheese, roll up to make it bitable.

ENJOY!!!

WHEEEEEE!

We went on a Ferris Wheel today at the Taste of San Pedro! What a way to usher in our third year together in marriage.

I love my wiggly husband and his crazy picture taking antics so much!

Thanks Justin for two of the most amazing years of my life!
